New method: colonoscopy will no longer be an invasive examination. (1/2)

While traditional colonoscopy remains a primary diagnostic and therapeutic procedure (allowing doctors to both view the lining and remove polyps on the spot), medical advancements are rapidly expanding non-invasive and minimally invasive alternatives for colorectal cancer screening.
These alternatives aim to make screening more accessible and less intimidating:
  • Virtual Colonoscopy (CT Colonography): This uses low-dose computed tomography (CT) scans and 3D computer imaging to examine the colon. It does not require a long scope or intravenous sedation. However, if a suspicious polyp or growth is found, a follow-up traditional colonoscopy is still necessary to remove or biopsy it.
  • Advanced Stool and Microbiome Tests: Recent breakthroughs—including AI-driven analysis of gut bacteria subspecies from simple stool samples—can detect markers associated with colorectal cancer with high accuracy. Other non-invasive stool options include FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) and multi-target stool DNA tests.
  • Blood-Based Tests: Liquid biopsy tests designed to detect circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from colorectal cancer cells via a simple blood draw are also emerging as screening options.
Would you like to hear the second part or explore how one of these specific alternatives compares to a standard colonoscopy?
