If your veins are visible in your hand, it is a signal of ca… See

Having visible or prominent veins in your hands is very common and, in the vast majority of cases, entirely harmless. It is rarely a sign of anything ominous; instead, it is usually caused by normal physical, genetic, or environmental factors.
Common reasons for visible hand veins include:
  • Aging and Thinning Skin: As we age, the skin naturally thins and loses elasticity (due to a reduction in collagen), making the veins underneath much easier to see.
  • Low Body Fat: Being lean or having a low body fat percentage means there is less tissue padding between your skin and your veins, making them appear more prominent.
  • Exercise and Physical Activity: When you exercise or lift heavy objects, blood flow increases, your blood pressure rises temporarily, and your muscles push veins closer to the surface.
  • Heat and Weather: High temperatures cause your blood vessels to dilate (expand) as your body works to cool itself down, which often makes veins stand out more.
  • Genetics: Simply put, some people inherit thinner skin or a natural predisposition to more noticeable or winding veins from their parents.

When to Pay Attention

While usually just a cosmetic or natural trait, you should consult a doctor if your hand veins appear suddenly, never go down, or are accompanied by any of the following symptoms:
  • Pain, tenderness, or a burning sensation in the hands or arms
  • Redness, warmth, or swelling around the veins (which can indicate inflammation or phlebitis)
  • Bulging or painful veins accompanied by symptoms in your legs
Is there a specific change or symptom you are noticing that prompted your question?
