Didn’t realize I’ve been doing it wrong the entire time! Gonna try this tonight

Using a 200W detail sander correctly makes a massive difference in both the finish quality and the lifespan of the tool and sandpaper.

Here are the key technique adjustments to keep in mind for your project tonight:

* **Let the tool do the work:** Avoid pressing down heavily on the sander. Too much pressure bogs down the 200W motor, creates uneven dips or swirl marks in the material, and burns through sandpaper and hook-and-loop pads quickly.
* **Keep the pad flat:** Always keep the triangular pad completely flush against the surface. Tilting the sander onto its edge or tip will cause deep gouges that are difficult to sand out.
* **Follow the grit progression:** Start with a coarser grit (like 80-grit) only if you need to remove old finish or heavy material, then step up to finer grits (like 120-grit or 220-grit) for a smooth finish. Skipping grits leaves visible scratch marks.
* **Sand with the grain:** When working on wood, always move the sander in the direction of the wood grain rather than across it to minimize visible scratches.
* **Manage the dust:** Empty the dust collection box frequently. Keeping it clear prevents dust buildup from clogging the sandpaper and reduces heat.

What kind of project are you working on tonight?
